Not only is author Daryl Banner's latest book MY BAD EX-BOYFRIEND a "gay tragedy of operatic proportions" but one that has a plot so stupid and predictable and except for the "bad ex-boyfriend," Dane Cooper, who never did anything "bad" and was the perfect boyfriend (the whole "ex-cop" thing made no sense especially considering how young Dane is), every other character is what can only be described as a bunch of prissy queens...especially Evan James Pryor, Dane's annoying, pretentious and whinny "ex-boyfriend." The "shocking vandalisms" include painting a mailbox pink, setting off a glitter bomb in a brand new Lexus and ruining the punch at a Valentine's Day gala by pouring a can on Monster Energy Drink into it, I kid you not. I figured out who the vandal was among the suspects of rich, prissy queens very early on in the book which made the book that much more ridicules. Mr. Banner hinted that we readers were going to see a BDSM, D/s relationship develop between Dane and "prissy" Evan as they try to get back together. Dane even comes right out a says that is what he wants but it never happened. In fact the sex between Dane and Evan was boring so adding a little kink to the story would have had a least made this mess of a book a little more bearable to read. Not only did Mr. Banner deliberately choose to use every gay stereotype possible in the writing of this book but wrote it in the first person and for some [unnecessary] reason had both Dane and Evan repeatedly "talking" directly at us poor readers which got annoying real fast. The only saving grace was that in the epilogue Mr. Banner hinted that the third book in his wonderful "Spruce Texas Romance" series involving Bobby and Jimmy will be out soon. Unfortunately MY BAD EX-BOYFRIEND is neither "hot" or "hilarious" as the blurb describing this book claims.

Love Banners stories!! I get excited each time he releases a new story of funs, sarcastic, real talk characters that you never want the story to end. Evan is complicated, though he puts that on himself which is the perfect balance of Danes easy going life's too short which at first were from a young man in love POV but it only matures more as he got older. Evan learns a lot more about his Ex then ever though he would and learns but then shows Evan what he's doing to himself to please others and not actually living which all Dane wants him to do. The chemistry is explosive with these two and even though they had a lot of history while in college, they can still learn new quirks about each other to make their new relationship work and thrive.

I loved this book. Daryl writes the most wonderful characters, who are often surprising couples because of their seemingly major differences. Evan is an image-conscious owner of a hair salon who appears to have everything but has lost touch with himself. Dane -the BAD ex-boyfriend- is a big muscular handsome tatted ex-cop who flirts shamelessly & speaks his mind with no filter. I love the subplot Dane helps Evan investigate and all of the additional characters, who are full of surprises of their own! I’m not doing this book justice but it is hot, sexy and courageous as the MCs find their best selves on the way back to each other.

I loved this so much! It has fantastic characters that you feel like you know from the way they are written. I felt so immersed in their world like I was right there with them all in that neighborhood or at Dane's cabin. Dane was so unexpected. Evan kinda lost himself along the way, but in finding Dane again he got himself back. The story was interesting and hot and kept me reading to the end.

This is just the book I expect from this author - a page turner with the perfect mix of hot and hilarious.I love Evan, I love Dane ( holy sleeveless denim jacket hotness) and I loved this book.With Evan seeking the help of his hot, bad ex-boyfriend to solve the mystery of the neighbourhood vandal it brings back both feelings and attraction and I loved every minute of it!

When I first read the title I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I got was a wonderful, funny, sexy story. I enjoyed the side characters almost as much as the main characters. Dane and Evan are such a fun couple. But all roads to love are not smooth.I wish I could visit Figaro Lane Cul de sac. Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️read from Daryl Banner

Evan and Dane were such a great couple. I loved the premise of a vandal in the neighborhood which brings Evan and Dane together again. The neighborhood was great because of the neighbors and the gossip. Everyone was described really well to where I wanted to live along side them. Funny and sweet with just enough spice to make it hot.

This is easily my favorite book by Daryl. Dane and Evan are adorable and perfect for each other. There's just this incredible and intense chemistry between them. The sex scenes are hot and I appreciate that the story paces them nicely and doesn't become dragging. The only con would be that the book is a bit short. I want to read more about Dane and Evan!

This book works. It's hard to believe but if you read each chapter and do the exercises (for practice) and then try it out on your kids (or in my case, my kindergarten aged niece) -- it actually works! Here's an example: my niece was having a WWIII type of tantrum one day because her candy cane had broken in half. (It was Christmas time.) Her parents, older sister, grandma, everyone was telling her that it was no big deal, she can have another candy cane, it will still taste just the same, etc., anything to get her to see reason and calm down. It only made her fit worse. Things escalated. Her mother started shouting threats to send her to her room. Then - I tried something that I had read in the book: Let the child have the feelings she's feeling and let her know that she's having those feelings. So, I went over to her and said -- just like one of the book's exercises: "It's terrible. Your candy cane broke, and now it's not a perfect candy cane anymore. Even though it will taste the same, it's not a candy CANE anymore. I can see how upsetting it is, because it's not the perfect candy cane that it used to be."And boom - she completely calmed down. She sat next to me without saying anything, but I could tell, she was finally feeling what she was feeling -- rather than being upset and fighting to claim her right to feel what she was feeling, if that makes sense. And that was that. She stopped being upset and ate her broken candy cane.There are so many other examples like this -- the 'one word' tip, the 'describe it/don't tell them what to do' tip, the 'write a wish list together' tip... I could go on. They really work!

I have a 15 year old daughter and while there are no major problems and we communicate very openly and honestly about everything, there are still moments where I feel that either I am treating things the right way or she is being rude. I bought the book hoping that it would greatly improve our already good rapport. This book is probably very helpful for parents who do not have an open line of communication with their teens, parents who are either too strict or too lenient or too afraid to have honest conversations with their kids. I did not find the book personally to be very helpful because my daughter has the maturity of a 25 year old and will laugh at some of the most of the tricks and tips described in this book. However, this did not turn out to be a complete waste because I started using some of the techniques with my spoiled little bratty 7 year old and it worked! An example: one evening he was majorly pissed because he could not get home in time to watch his TV show. So instead of trying to calm him down in a traditional way by telling him that it was not a huge deal, I used the fantasy strategy from the book and said "Wouldn't you wish the car could just fly and we would be home in a second?" Right away, his tears stopped and he said "Yeah, and I also wish that you could always go back and see the missed parts of your shows" to which I said "You know, someone thought about that and invented DVR, we don't have it at our house, but we can look into it, OK?" At that point, he was all smiles. One very important point I learned from the book, as parents, we tend to often disregard our kids feelings about what we perceive to be minor things such as missing a show, but to kids, these things are major. We can't expect them to yet understand that such small problem is nothing compared to major bad stuff that happens in the world.

Every parent needs this book. This book is really great. At first it can seem really ....well... cheesy. But when you actually apply the methods.... man oh man is it cool. It feels really great to be able to talk to my kids without yelling. Also they can talk to me much easier. Even with my younger guy (3yrs old) I have been able to acknowledge his feelings when he is going off of the “deep-end” and calm him down. Usually it would be me yelling at him to “chill out! You don’t have to freak out!! Calm down!” blah blah blah the usual parenting rants. Not only do you NOT need to yell, you barely need to talk. Just listen and acknowledge and stay CALM. They do the rest. It’s magical!!! Highly recommend this book to parents with kids any age.

LOVE! I am a teacher, not a parent (yet) and this book applies to all of the wonderful kids in my life. I love the exercises and the variety of examples. Highly recommend for teachers or parents!

Best parenting book I've read (out of about 30). I recommend this to anyone who spends lots of time with children or other people. I read a lot of parenting books (I love to read, and I love books, and I'm a parent of twin toddlers. I'm also a pediatrician). Often others (husband, friends) want to know about them without having to actually take the time to read them. This book is perfect for that. It has great summaries, many specific examples, and the pictures (comics) are actual examples that summarize the key points. The book can be enjoyed on my levels, but the one the authors intend -- taking a week or two to practice the techniques in each chapter-- has worked very well for my family. This book is about mindfulness, and walks you through listening to yourself first and then being ready to hear others. Once you have seen constructive ways to respond to your own inner voice, you become empowered to listen to others. And by modeling a constructive way to respond to negative thoughts and actions, you become the teacher. Faber and Mazlish have really done it right here. This book is gold!

Incredibly helpful book! This has helped a lot in finding a good communication channel with my 4 year old son. The constant battles of "But I don't want to" "I want to do this instead" are now easily handled. I really enjoy having the skills explained in my "parent toolbox". As recommended, I wrote them out and put them on the fridge for quicker references for those "on the spot" moments. Highly recommended if you have a child that wont' listen to you, ignores you or you otherwise experience parenting issues rooted in communication and listening with your child.

i've been so tired of hearing people tell me that climate change has no bearing on our fire seasons, i went in search of good reading material on the subject. this is a beautiful book. well thought out, precise with measured thought and consideration. i so badly want to present the book to those who would argue what this book presents, but i don't want to part with the book. it's one i will read more than once.

The long term effects of the continued burning of North Americas timberland are outlined for the reader. If causes the reader to ponder the information given in the book long after one has read it. This is a good book.

This book is so excellent it should be a text book. I learned so much. Thank you.

Really well written, easy to read style , very informative. This book brings to light the unfortunate truth of wild fire in the west.

My husband is really enjoying this book and I look forward to reading it.

Living out in the country myself, Ii’m grateful that I chose to read this book. Very informative. Easy to understand. If you know nothing about the science of fires, you will learn a great deal after reading this book. This is a book for anyone that wants to obtain a deeper understanding of fires. It explores the science behind fires and the research being done to find a solution. You'll learn about the heroic efforts of those responsible for fighting fire, how years of fire suppression and chronic drought have combined to make the situation more dire, and how nature reacts in the aftermath of flames. Color photographs throughout reveal the beauty and terror of fire and the stunning effect it has on the landscape. Land on Fire is for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of our time of fire. Ferguson writes extremely well and makes his subject both accessible and easy to understand in terms of cause and effect. His photographs are stunning in themselves, and aid understanding. He explains, for instance, how foresters in the past took stances that encouraged the build-up of brush until massive fires could not be stopped and only a few major trees with thick bark remained. The forests in general would benefit from occasional smaller fires burning off old deadwood and litter, making it into nutrients and allowing seeds to sprout in clearings. But the North American continent is drying and warming. He shows that the extended fire season and continued over-abstraction of freshwater have combined to guarantee stands of dying trees and massive fires blazing for months. Lightning and human activity, including downed power lines, are the main causes of fires.We also learn about Standing Firefighting Orders, and forensic fire science. That means tracing how a fire started, what caused it to spread and what fanned or enabled it. Ladder trees, jumping crown fires, flying sparks and valleys all play a part. We learn how to protect a house against such fires well in advance. I'm really glad that the experts in this extraordinary field are able to publish their knowledge so we can all benefit. According to the author's note, Mora envisioned the flow of the poems as that of a symphony with four movements—an opening focus on love's initial rush, followed by a few bumps in the road, healing after loss of love, and finally the joy of finding new love. This cohesion is indeed delivered. Peppered with Spanish, the selections define the emotion in countless ways. The quiet lyricism of some lines will prompt many readers to roll them over and over on their tongues; this is a world in which a simple smile can make a boy feel as if he's "swallowed the sun" or one's worst fear might be a kiss "dull like oatmeal." Where relevant, poetic form is indicated, defined, and discussed on the adjacent page. For all its beauty, this collection is also, in some ways, hard to pin down. The jacket copy and title might lead one to expect a focus on the intensity of teen romantic love. The love here is neither hot and heavy nor clichéd, however, but rather a glimpse into the last remaining innocence of the teen years. I love this book that captivates all kinds of love in such a powerful way. Its inspired me to begin writing again.

From best friends to teachers you won't forget who inspired you along the way; from watching your parents fill your life with love, to learning from all the other generations how powerful love can be, makes this a must read for anyone who is looking for peace, honesty, friendship, and love.This book is an offering from an award-winning children's author who has taken everything we feel deep inside and turned those emotions into a beautiful tribute that people of all ages will adore. The author took me through the beginning pangs of love that included creative dates where fortune cookies held the question of whether or not a young woman would go out with a young man. Others told of how the young man pined for his love and left long-stemmed roses on the windshield of her car to make her smile. I was then swept into a story of a young girl dancing with her brother's best friend, that took me back to a story of my awesome grandparents who had a love that "time would lie down and stand still for."My grandmother was like the heroine in Mora's poem, a girl who thought her brother's best friend was nothing more than a nuisance before he convinced her to say 'I do' and stay with him for the next fifty years. There was a poem about parents who watched out for each other, checked to make sure the other one was safe and happy, making the children of that union know what real love really was and that they should never settle for less. While reading, I remembered the look that my parents would shoot at each other from across the room, and how great that look was - how honored I was to be in the presence of people who felt so much for each other. Then, of course, I cried, because in the following pages I came across a poem that told of the "one day we'd kiss goodbye," that broke my heart - knowing that even the greatest and most beloved attachment can come to an end before renewing itself in Heaven.The poems also told of the friendship between sisters - the private laughter we share, and the secret stories that only a sister whom you've loved and despised all your life can know about you. I was brought back to History class as I read about that one teacher who writes notes on your essays - telling you that you are good with words, and that the world needs you to speak them loudly. You remember that teacher who planted a seed in your soul, making you want to continue on that path and engage readers for a lifetime. Of course, there was also the heartache of love being misunderstood, or not returned, like when your best friend who you've been with every day since birth decides to ask someone else to the prom. And, for the first time, you realize you have been relegated to friend status only and your heart breaks in two.The author speaks to you personally, using all different forms of poetry - from pantuom to tercet - to bring you back through the days of your youth; walk you through the mysteries of marriage; and remind you of the honesty, trust, and respect that comes from a lifelong partnership. This is an incredible book where each poem makes you call up a memory that you thought you left behind years ago. My personal reccommendation is the final poem in this glorious book called "My Song."
