The "Star Trek: The Original Series" 2018 Wall Calendar certainly lives up to its billing by including full-color photos of the Starship Enterprise's original bridge crew. But there are signs that Universe Publishing needs either a better photo editor for projects such as these-or a fresh approach to the product.This year's calendar features a head shot of Sulu from "The Lights of Zetar," but it's so generic that it could have come from any third-season episode in which Sulu appeared. And since "Zetar" showcased Scotty, why couldn't a still featuring him have been used to represent that episode? Instead, the engineer's represented by a generic still of him operating the transporter from "Arena"-a Kirk-centric story.Also, there's a still of an Enterprise flyby from "The Ultimate Computer," but it could have come from any "TOS" episode. And the head shot of Spock from "Amok Time" has appeared many times before in Trek products of this nature.Perhaps in coming years, Universe should consider commissioning original artwork based on "TOS" episodes, as is the case with the "Ships of the Line" calendar series. Or perhaps Universe could use cover artwork from Pocket Books' many previous "TOS" novel releases.This is by no means a bad calendar. With some fresh thinking on the publisher's part regarding the artwork, future editions of the "TOS" Wall Calendar could be better.

I like this calendar since I like the photos from the original show and wanted a ST calendar on my wall on this 50th anniversary year. However, the calendar portion itself (the boxes of days) is smaller than most 12 x 12 calendars because they put a black frame around the calendar (most have the calendar reach to the edges). The actual calendar square is 10 x 7. The boxes are large enough to write in notes, but definitely harder to see than the standard size. Other than this, the paper and color quality of the photos and calendar are great and the photo selection is good (not fantastic).

I bought this as a Chistmas gift for my Son. He has autism and LOVES all things that are from the original Star Trek series. I've been buying these for years and he loves them and has saved/kept every one that I've purchased. I highly recommend these calendars, especially for faithful Trekkies!

Very cool! Only bummed that one of the months featured a remastered photo of the Enterprise, pretty silly since the rest of the calendar is grainy low-quality photos (which I like the best)! Skip the "new" stuff, I only want original series photos, none of that remastered crap.

My favorite calendar. Every year they feature totally different images for each month, it does not feel repetitive. Easily the best Star Trek calendar out there, since the Ships of the Line calendars are functionally disastrous.

The quotations that go with each month's picture are not very inspiring or amusing, but the pictures are good quality, both in terms of resolution and aesthetics, and they show our favorite characters very well.

Great intro to linux book.

This book was required reading for my college course. By buying on Amazon using my prime account, I was able to save time and money.

Well written with plenty of examples. This book serves two purposes it explains the syntax and use of Linux commands, and it acts as a very useful reference to keep at your elbow.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. As a new Linux user it covered a lot of the basic commands and more. Makes a great reference book for the future too!

I'm a Windows person and this book helped me much more than any other in learning Linux! Definitely worth the money.

I am a faculty member at RIT and teach courses in system administration. I am always on the lookout for texts that go beyond the usual Linux bible type topics to discuss in a very concise fashion the many sides of Linux and its use. I greatly enjoy Prof. Wang's style of writing and the fact that this text goes beyond the regular topics to give students an introduction to Linux as both an operating system and a development platform. The thing that I particularly enjoy is that rather than try to cover every detail of every topic he covers (an impossible task given the changing nature of the technology) this text introduces students to many topics, gets them up and running and then lets them figure things out on their own. As an example of this his chapter on writing shell scripts does not pretend to be the last word on shell scripts (that is for much thicker tomes) but this chapter gives students enough to get started writing shell scripts and points them in the direction of uses for shell scripts and then moves on.For me, this is the right approach and I intend to use this text in several classes.

It's a very good introduction, similar in style to the great Harley Hahn's Guide to Unix and Linux[...], but much shorter, and not as charming.The information density is high.It would be of 5 stars value if not the extreme (even for a computer science book) number of mistakes.On the other hand, trying to figure out how to correct the numerous mistakes in the presented shell commandshas an educative function too. Who knows, maybe even a better one than presenting the correct commands,as it really forces the reader to start using man and help!
