I save 5 stars for very exceptional books, so 4 stars is dandy in my evaluations. These books have intriguing plots, likable characters, a gentle romance theme, and in some --what's not to like?-- a dog! It was very nice to be able to read them sequentially so as to enjoy the continuity. A thumbs up for this set!
I really didn't think I was going to like these when I first started reading as I was afraid they were going to be too preachy and churchy, but this author is a great story teller. Truthfully I've only read the first six in this collection. I enjoyed them so much I bought and have read the next three. I have started on the second series in this set and so far I'm happy with it.
If you love Jesus..buy it, if you just wanted to read a fun novel, give it a pass. Preachy is a light word for this
A nice easy read, no bad language, and keeps the pages turning, you want to read the whole book at one time. If you are into heavy mysteries they may be to simple for you, although you don't figure it out until the end on most. Each character has a delightful personality all their own, and you have to love them all.
This is actually the first 6 books each of two series. Both series were fun to read. They are cozy mysteries that will give you some laughs and not nightmares. As with some other books I have read recently, I stayed up way past my bedtime several nights reading "just a few more pages." There are some characters over-lapping in the two series and I enjoyed that feature. Some of the stories were very believable and some were not as much so, but all in all, I fully enjoyed the books. I plan to buy more books by this author.
This has been a very enjoyable series. All of the lady characters are a hoot. Amazing how they all seem to be around and get involved in murder and mystery investigations. I hope I can be as daring as them. Loved it!
I loved reading every one of the first six books in this series. I especially loved the fact that the books are by a Christian author and that there is no foul language or steamy sex scenes! There ARE Bible verses and recipes for everyone! The things I had trouble with were the fact that people in the books are referred to as "that" instead of "who", which they should be called!! The second thing was that there are several missing words, which sometimes make it difficult to understand the gist of the sentences and, the most important thing (as an avid animal lover), the main character, Gloria, feeds her dog and cat people food!! All dogs and cats should eat dog and cat food - always!! I still have all six books a 5 rating because they were so easy to read.
Am in book 3 of the Garden Girls Mysteries. While I like the simple stories and the characters, in this book the main character, Gloria, has been asked on a date by Deputy Paul Kennedy. After Gloria's daughter helped her pick out an outfit, took her to get her hair colored and styled, and even had her nails done. I was disappointed when neither Paul or any of Gloria's friends mentioned her makeover, or that any of the friends asked how the date went. Just seemed odd. I thought this was a big deal for Gloria and should have been recognized. I finished that book never knowing any reactions. Now I'm in book 4. No mention of Paul again yet.
