I am so pleased with this book of just crocheted patterns. I highly reccommend this book to anyone that loves to crochet. With the pattern sequence noted, each shawl can be expanded into an afghan or lap wheelchair afghan. I have made three shawls so far and will make many more. The instructions are easy to follow and the prayers and stories inspirational. I am a ministry of one at the moment but hope to start a group in our parish soon. The joy the gifts have produced makes this book a true blessing. Even if you don't pray while you crochet the joy is still there in the giving of these beautiful shawls.

I enjoy making prayer shawls for hospice in my spare time. This book has simple and beautiful patterns to make for those around you who could use something comforting or for gifts.

I had no idea that my local JoAnn Fabric store was also a craft store. I am now thinking about getting the book for knitting prayer shawls. Great book.

I love this book! Not only does it have beautiful and easy to understand patterns, but also has prayers, stories from those who have received prayer shawls, symbolic meaning of colors and numbers, and some advice on starting a prayer shawl ministry. I would recommend it to anyone who belongs to or is interested in a prayer shawl ministry, or to those who can crochet at least at beginning level who would just like to make a beautiful shawl, with or without the prayers. Many of the patterns are marked "easy".

Hobbs has done it again with another exceptional book on essential oils. This time the discussion is on using essential oils for babies and children. I found chapter 1 to be amazing with the explanation of what are essential oils, a brief history behind them as well as finding out the benefits of using aromatherapy with our children. However, as great as the first chapter is Hobbs doesn’t end there, as there is so much more such as the dos and don’ts of safety, which oils are safe and ones that are not, and awesome child-friendly blends that cover peaceful sleep, calming and even mosquito spray. With a great writing style one will find this to be an easy yet detailed read making this an excellent find for anyone wanting to use essential oils with their children.

This book is full of misinformation not backed by research. I hate I posted it to Facebook for others to take advantage of the free offer. Thankfully I did not lose anything but time with this book.

Bought this book on a free promo, even though it is a very controversial topic - where aromatherapy may provide some benefits to your children and to your babies. Not all oil products are harmful, of course - as baby oils have been used forever, this book gives you information should you decide to use essential oils for your kids. Now, I wouldn't want to recommend that, but the book gives scents that you can use and common mistakes other people make.I'm giving it a five star review for the information it provided, but I'm not sure I'll be using essential oils for my children.

Chapter 3 has a list of oils that are unsafe for children... helpful.Chapter 4 has a list of oils that are safe for babies. Some of the same oils that are deemed not safe for a 6 year old are listed in chapter 4 as safe for topical use on babies.This resource is contradictory and not helpful. I returned the kindle version in less than 15 minutes.

Really bad grammar and contradictory between what to use and what not to use, with no sources or reasoning cited. I will find a resource I trust before doing anything in this book.

Written by an historian and a caver, this is an exciting read about a seriously sad ending to Floyd Collins back in 1925. For a claustrophobic feeling/fear, read the epilogue in which the authors descend into that cave and find a passage around the cave in and, therefore, with 20/20 hindsight, the way Collins could have been saved.

If you ever crawled through cold muddy caves as I did when you were growing up you'll love this story. It's one of the best books I've ever read. My Grandfather was one of the many Cave City, KY locals who went out to the Sand Cave spectacle during the rescue attempts of Floyd Collins and told me about it when I was a little kid.

After a recent visit to Mammoth Cave National Park I have an interest in cave stories - this did not disappoint ! Well researched and well written - highly recommend!

Purchased this many years ago and have recently reread Floyd's story. Well written and well documented. Hard to believe what this man went through and the actions of the people following his story.

Interesting book, I bought it as the story is about my Grandfather's Cousin (my great Uncle ? ? ? ) Fast read, interesting to see the facts of what took place.

I borrowed this from a friend after seeing a production of the musical, "Floyd Collins" a few years ago, and I recently re-read it. I was warned that the book was "dry" but I didn't find it dull at all. The authors have a wonderful (?) way of making me feel claustrophobic - the way that they describe the tunnels and caves which Collins explored makes me never want to set foot in a cave. Ever.The book is very well-written, and an excellent account of one of the biggest media events in the early twentieth century.

My interest in Floyd Collins comes from my relationship to the Collins Family. Floyd's younger brother, Marshall, was married to my great aunt, Anna Johnson. I had heard stories all my life about this tragedy, but it is nice to have a full narrative into which I can place the stories I heard. This is a wonderful account, well documented and written with attention to detail.

As somebody who suffers from claustrophobia, the story of Floyd Collins's predicament is the ultimate nightmare, but yet a fascinating read!! If you're like me, you'll turn away just to shudder and catch your breath occasionally when you picture yourself in Collins's rut. Murray and Brucker's research is probably the most in-depth on the subject and they paint the appalling 1925 Kentucky scene well. Your hopes and expectations will yo-yo through this rollercoaster ride that chronicles the final days of Floyd Collins and the story of his rescuers. Anybody with an interest in caving should read this book. Similarly, anybody with an interest in Kentucky history will probably enjoy this book too. Very difficult to put down!

Other opinions are shot from the hip.The book deals with the criminal and the civil justice systems. A good case is made that the civil system is arbitrary because right and wrong have lost their meaning. Examples are provided for medical malpractice, business ethics and contracts. The state of the criminal justice system is more ambiguous. Strong arguments are made for both the equity and inequity of criminal justice.All of the information provided is valuable to anyone who may be called to jury duty. Selected information can be used to bolster just about any bias one may have regarding our justice system. The range of authors and the fact that they are kept to just a few hundred words, make for entertaining reading.

This book deals with a number of topics and has 85 contributors. An important topic is jury nullification. This is the case where a jury decides, quite legally, to let a guilty person go free. A jury can also intentionally convict an innocent person, but that can often be appealed. I'm against jury nullification. Many years ago, some students were unhappy about the fact that secret (and highly inaccurate) files were being kept on them by their university. They protested, but they could get nowhere because the existence of these files was denied! Finally, some of them broke into a dean's office, restrained the dean (that's a crime; it's called "kidnapping"), opened his file cabinet, and removed the secret files (that's also a crime).Although the criminals accomplished something positive by their crimes, I felt the criminals needed to be punished in accordance with the law. They weren't, and as a result, numerous destructive "copycat" crimes followed which did no one any good.Of course, in this country, jury nullification has an even more annoying aspect. In the case that I cited, the issue of "reasonable doubt" did not come up. But sometimes it does, such as in the OJ Simpson case. Here, "reasonable doubt" was used as an excuse for jury nullification. That makes me wonder about the entire idea of using juries as determiners of fact. I think if we want to allow a jury to let a guilty person go free, we should first make sure the accused is actually guilty! And that means letting some folks other than the nullifiers determine the facts.In this book, Philip Howard points out that the role of a jury is to inform the Court of the facts. Of course, he's right. And he is discussing the contrast with the role of the judge, which is to answer questions of law. But my point is that we won't have a justice system at all unless questions of fact are resolved, and that jury nullification forces us to skip this step. I was hoping to see more comments on this point in the book.Howard did at least make the point that we need to stop juries from making whimsical decisions on matters of law as well.The first section of the book deals with the concept of "reasonable doubt" specifically. Next is a section on "equal justice." And after that, there's a section called "quest for truth." There's plenty of interesting material here. But I wanted to see far more on ideas to get truth to play a much bigger role in our legal system. After all, without truth, there can't be justice! Some of the contributors did not mind the fact that OJ Simpson got away with murder, reasoning that a system that would convict him would also convict some innocent people. I think those contributors are totally wrong. OJ Simpson went free because the system was no good; I think such a bad system will generally convict more, not fewer, innocent people.There is also a section on the media and the justice system. And there's a section on protecting victims. Following that is a section called "punishment in America."The penultimate section deals with some rather serious crimes, such as the Armenian genocide and Serbian crimes against Bosnia. Again, I want to see more emphasis on truth here. For example, although I see a need for justice in such crimes, I am strongly against any international criminal tribunals. I believe such tribunals tend to degenerate into kangaroo courts that ignore the guilty while trying and punishing the innocent. If there were more value placed on truth, along with some checks and balances to prevent such perversions of justice, I would be less leery of such courts.I enjoyed this book even though I strongly disagreed with a great deal of what the contributors had to say. It addresses a wide range of important issues. But it should have given more advice on how to make truth a more important aspect of legal decisions, and I'm deducting a star for that.

If what you are looking for is the most basic, non-technical introduction imaginable, you'll surely be happy with how readable this is. But the potential buyer should be aware that that is what this is. And I do mean basic. It took less than ten minutes to read it "cover" to virtual "cover." There is almost no technical information here beyond the wire-length-to-frequency formula, and nothing that is not freely available on a great many amateur radio websites. It omits information that is covered in the other three volumes of the series, so it has limited use as a stand-alone volume, and it's $18 for the four-volume set. That's more than 1/3 the price of the paperback edition of the venerable ARRL Antenna Book, which runs to nearly 1,000 pages and includes a CD with searchable text. If you are looking for more than a beginner's introduction, you may want to save your pocket change for a few weeks and spring for the big book.

Excellent and informative book. I would recommend to any radio amateur that is looking to improve their antenna. I bult two. Antennas and both play very well.

Good basic book that just about anybody who had studied the technician and general ham radio tested should be able to understand.

Good for beginners, bud I think is a basic compilation of basic information of antennas, mi opinion is you can find more technical information for free in internet.
